History
After being located in via del Corso in the 1920’s and later on in via Condotti, Serra moved to its present address in Piazza di Spagna, 9 in 1997.
Since November 2008 in prestigious seat in Via San Nicola da Tolentino 55.
Serra is a store specialising in crystal and cut glass, silverware and jewellery. High class products for refined tastes began life under the auspices of Mappin and Webb, the most famous English luxury goods store, when it opened in Rome under the direction of Mario Serra.
In 1924 Serra set up on his own using all his experience gained as a traveller and constant observer of contemporary society. He began by stocking products that were both interesting and innovative and in a short space of time his store had become the reference point for high society and the Italian royal family.
His client list went on to include both the aristocracy and eminent families as well as ordinary people and young maried couples. This was a result of Serra being the first store to introduce the idea of the wedding list in the 1950’s comprised of Meissen porcelain, Baccarat cut glass, silver tableware, Sheffield cutlery and antique silver.
The running of the business passed from Mario to Marcello and today the third generation of Serras, Alessandro and his wife Ornella are at the helm. Alessandro creates new collections with ancient Greek and Roman coins as well as reviving the 19th century habit of collecting precious souvenirs including a series of Roman fountains in silver. Ornella creates personalised table settings in mosaic form made out of marble, complete sets made in accordance with the customer’s wishes.
Today, in Serra’s 1st floor showroom customers can enjoy a splendid view of Bernini’s famous Boat fountain while inside the showroom they can admire its no less beautiful fully functioning silver replica.
In this marvellous setting Serra offers you an unmatched assortment of porcelain, crystal and cut glass, as well as silver from the most famous manufacturers allowing you to appreciate a perfect balance between the elegance of classic choices and the energy and style of modern collections.
Serra is happy to advise and assist you putting all its almost 100 year experience at your service.
